South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall University student-athletes enjoyed another banner semester in the classroom, finishing Fall 2017 with a department-record 3.378 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). That is two-thousands of a point higher than the 3.376 that Seton Hall had at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year.
The increase in cumulative GPA continues a years-long trend of record academic success. In seven years, the cumulative GPA has risen from 3.174 at the end of 2010-11 to today's milestone number.
In addition, the Pirates placed 135 student-athletes on the Seton Hall University Dean's List for achieving at least a 3.4 GPA during the Fall 2017 semester. This represents over 54 percent of the student-athlete population.
"Congratulations to all of our student-athletes for this achievement," Seton Hall Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons said. "As always, they deserve all the credit for being able to successfully balance their classroom responsibilities with their athletic commitments. They understand what it takes to be prosperous in life after graduation, and it is rewarding to see that they are taking advantages of the education opportunities they have been afforded. They truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
"I'd also like to thank our academic support staff, our coaches and our administrators for continuing to prioritize the classroom in keeping with our vision to push our student-athletes towards academic success."

Thirteen of Seton Hall's 14 varsity sports currently sport a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, led by the women's golf program, which is at 3.695. The men's golf team is the highest among the male sports at 3.467.
Specifically during the Fall 2017 semester, women's golf had the highest GPA of all 14 programs at 3.819. Men's soccer had the highest of the male programs at 3.479.
Seton Hall continues to make its mark as an institution where student-athletes come to build a portfolio of academic and athletic achievement. With a record-high grade-point average, all 14 varsity programs above the national average in academic progress rate, over 80 percent of the student-athlete population above a 3.0 GPA and numerous regional and national academic honors, The Hall is committed to ensuring long-term success for its student-athletes.
