
Pirates Surge Back For Win Over Butler on NGWSD

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In front of a sold-out Walsh Gym crowd, the Seton Hall women's basketball team (15-9, 7-6 BIG EAST) rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit for a dramatic 75-64 win over Butler (13-12, 5-8 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon. The contest was part of The Hall's celebration of National Girls and Women's in Sports Day, with a packed house of 1,655 on hand.
Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) had a huge day for The Hall in the win, recording her second career double-double with career-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds. JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) joined her at the top of the scoresheet with 18 points and Kaela Hilaire (Queens, N.Y.) added 14 along with a team-high six assists off the bench.
Turning Points
The Pirates trailed by as many as 10 in the first half and went to the break down five, falling behind 48-40 with 4:54 to play in the third quarter. The Pirates clawed back to within a possession late in the frame, with Kaity Healy (Freehold, N.J.) finding Samuels for a corner 3-pointer to cut the lead to 48-45 heading to the fourth.
In the fourth, Butler scored the first four points of the quarter to pull ahead 52-45 with 8:47 to go. The Hall answered emphatically and roared back, rattling off a 15-0 run over 5:28 of game time. Samuels scored nine points during the run, including a three-point play to pull within a bucket at the 7:49 mark. On the next possession, Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) knocked down a 3-pointer to give The Hall its first lead of the day at 53-52. The result of the run was a 60-52 lead with 3:19 to play, and the Pirates were able to knock down free throws the rest of the way to keep it a multi-possession gap. Overall The Hall scored 30 points in the final period and out-scored Butler 43-27 in the second half.

- The Hall's victory came despite shooting 37.9 percent from the floor, their second-straight win and third this season when shooting under 40 percent
- The Pirates won the turnover battle, 19-7, and out-scored the Bulldogs 25-4 off miscues
