
Cross Country Begins Season at Army Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams opened up their seasons at the Army Open on Aug. 31. The men's top finisher was junior Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.), who placed 18th after finishing the 6K race in 21:25.10. For the women, senior Kerry Cahill (Hillsborough, N.J.) paced the team after a 19th place finish, crossing the finish line in 17:37.20. No team scores were calculated.
The rest of the men stayed relatively close together. Junior Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I.) placed 20th (21:37.9) and junior Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.) was the 22nd runner to complete the course in 21:41.50. Freshman Thomas Corona (Faifield, Conn.) finished 32nd with a time of 22:06, and senior Patrick O'Neil (Southwick, Mass.) rounded out the Pirates' top five, placing 44th (22:56.90).
For the women, freshman Alexandra Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) finished right behind Cahill, for 20th place (17:46.40). Sophomore Clare Byrne (Berkely Heights, N.J.) was 36th (18:35.40). Junior Jackie Hobbs (Monroe, N.C.) wrapped up the 4K in 19:22.10 for 38th place. Sophomore Diane Szaflarski (Clifton, N.J.) took 45th place with a time of 20:20.90.
The Pirates return to action on Sept. 14 at the Monmouth Invitational.
