
Cross Country Begins Season at Army Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Seton Hall cross country teams competed at the Army Open on Friday, August 30. Senior Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.) was the top male finisher, placing 14th (17:05.30). For the women, sophomore Alexandra Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) paced the squad with a 13th place finish (21:50.40).
Seniors Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I.) and Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.) were the next two male finishers for the Pirates. Gallogly ran the five kilometer race in 17:18.10 to finish in 18th place, while Novak crossed the finish line in 17:30.10, to place 22nd.
Sophomore Thomas Corona (Fairfield, Conn.) was the 26th runner to break the tape (17:40.20), and classmate Dwight Parker (Randallstown, Md.) finished 37th (18:50.40). Freshmen Erik Chester (Danieltown, Conn.) and Andrew O’Leary (Liverpool, N.Y.) placed 41st and 42nd, respectively. Chester’s time was 19:01.00 and O’Leary clocked in at 19:07.10.
Senior Nick Campbell (Warwick, R.I.) rounded out the men and finished 43rd (19:12.80).
The women’s team ran as a pack, and there were just 13 spots between the fastest and slowest runners. Freshman Alyssa Barrow (Millville, N.J.) made her collegiate debut and finished 16th (22:18.00).
Senior Chavanne Hubbard (Somerset, N.J.) placed 19th racing to a time of 22:40.70. Junior Diane Szaflarski (Clifton, N.J.) finished 20th (22:52.60). Junior Jackie Hobbs (Monroe, N.C.) was the 23rd to complete the race with a time of 23:53.90. Sophomore KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) finished 25th (24:10.80).
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, September 13, at the Old Nassau Run in Princeton, N.J. The race is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
