PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Kaitlyn Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) netted her collegiate goal while classmate Meghan Hayes (Newton, N.J.) picked up her first collegiate point, yet it would not be enough as Princeton scored two goals in the second half to break a, 1-1 tie and defeat the Pirates, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
Gabriella Guzman struck first with a goal in the 10th minute, but the Pirates (1-2) came back to tie the score. In the 21st minute, Hayes gave a pass to Ritter who won her one-on-one battle with the defender and kicked the ball past Tigers' goalkeeper Alyssa Pont for her first of the season.
Following halftime, Princeton (1-1) took the lead for good when Jen Hoy received a centering pass from Caitlin Blosser, dribbled around a Pirates' defender, and scored past goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.). They added an insurance goal in the 86th minute from Sara Chehrehsa. In addition to Hoy's game-high seven shots, Blosser finished the game with three assists.
The Pirates ended the match with 12 shots including a team-high four from co-captain Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) who played in her first action since the 2008 season.
Pettigrew played a full 90 minutes making three saves. Pont and Kristin Watson split the game with Pont collecting four saves and Watson three.
The teams ended at a stalemate in corner kicks, 3-3, and Princeton picked up 12 fouls to the Pirates nine.
The Pirates return to action Wednesday evening when they make their 2010 home debut hosting Maryland. Kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
