SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - A day after earning BIG EAST Player of the Week honors, Seton Hall junior Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) was named New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Kalamar had the greatest week of his career, helping the Pirates to a perfect 5-0 record, including a three-game sweep of BIG EAST rival West Virginia. The outfielder started all five games and batted .500 (11-for-22) while smashing his first career home run, a grand slam at Monmouth on Tuesday. In one of the best single-game performances in recent memory, Kalamar went 4-for-6 with six RBIs against the Hawks. Against West Virginia, he had two hits in each of the three contests. On Friday, with the score 11-9 in the eighth inning and the tying run at the plate for West Virginia, Kalamar made a fully-extended diving catch in left field to end the Mountaineer threat. He also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a triple on Friday. On Saturday, Kalamar went 2-for-3 in a 3-1 Pirates win. On Sunday, he was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and his second triple of the series.
The Pirates will return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 1, when they travel to Jersey City to take on Saint Peter's at 3:30 p.m. Seton Hall will return to Owen T. Carroll Field on Tuesday, May 8, when it hosts Monmouth.
