WGolf Tied for Third at Hoya Invite

BEALLSVILLE, MD. – Junior Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) is currently 5-over-par through the first two rounds of the 2013 Hoya Women’s Invitational and has led the Seton Hall women’s golf team to a third place tie with one round remaining.   Basalone is currently tied for fifth place among 80 individual golfers and is only three strokes behind the individual leader, Lisbeth Brooks of Campbell University.  Basalone is 5-over-par with a 73-76-149 through two rounds.   Collectively, the Pirates are tied for third with the University of Pennsylvania at 39-over-par with a 305-310-615.  Seton Hall trails the team leader, Campbell, by 11 strokes.  Three other BIG EAST competitors are all looking up at the Pirates in the standings.  St. John’s is currently sixth 25 strokes behind SHU.  Georgetown is seventh, 29 strokes behind, while Rutgers is eighth, 31 strokes behind Seton Hall.     “I’m happy with the way we competed during a very long day,” said Head Coach Sara Doell.  “We’re in a good position to make a move in Tuesday’s final round and improve on our current standing.”

FreshmanMegan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) had a standout first round and is currently tied for 12^th with a 10-over-par, 74-80-154.

Sophomore Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) is tied for 23^rd at 15-over-par with an 80-79-159.

Sophomore Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) had a rough first round, but rebounded nicely with a 3-over-par, 75, in round two.  Currently, she’s tied for 29^th at 17-over-par with an 86-75-161.

Junior Christina Cantú (Houston, Texas) rounded out the Pirates’ team scoring with a 19-over-par, 78-85-163.

Three Pirates made the trip to Beallsville to compete as individuals.  Freshman Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) had a breakout two-over-par first round and is currently tied for 16^th overall with a 12-over-par, 74-82-156.  Junior Samantha Massei (Allen, Texas) was 41-over-par with a 91-94-185, while Haley Van Es (Granger, Ind.) finished with a 44-over-par, 98-90-188.

The Seton Hall women’s golf team will resume play with the third and final round tomorrow.  Complete results will be available at www.SHUpirates.com at day’s end.
