Lent's Late Triple Lifts Pirates Past Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. - Trailing by a run and down to its final out, the Seton Hall softball team got a dramatic two-run triple from Noel Lent (Yaphanic, N.Y.) to come back for a 9-7 victory over host Coastal Carolina at the Kickin' Chicken Classic. The Pirates (5-2) earned a split of two games on Friday at the tournament with their victory over the Chanticleers (1-6).
The Hall jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) home run before CCU answered with five in the bottom of the first to take a two-run lead. The Pirates knotted the contest at 5-all in the top of the second with RBI walks from Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) and Fischer, before briefly re-taking the lead in the top of the fifth. CCU went ahead 7-6 in the bottom of inning number five and led until Lent's home run in the seventh.
Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) came out of the pen for the Pirates and improved to 4-2 on the year with six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Fischer had a season-high four RBIs and Lent drove in the crucial two late. Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) went 2-for-2 at the dish and Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) scored twice and drove in a run.
Turning Point
CCU retired the first two Pirates in the top of the seventh, holding a 7-6 lead. With two down, Suto bunted for a base hit and Harrell walked, setting the table for Lent. The junior smacked a two-run triple, putting The Hall up 8-7. Alexis Walkden followed with an RBI single, driving the score to its final mark.
