Seton Hall fends off four Towson set points to win set one en route to a four-set victory.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) matched her career-high with 16 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team topped previously unbeaten Towson, 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19), in the finale of the 2016 Seton Hall Classic on Saturday.
Â
Towson was 6-0 and a perfect 18-for-18 in sets before the Pirates used a dramatic comeback to stun them in set one. With the score tied at 19, the Tigers scored five straight and had four set points. The Hall however, used a pair of kills by Hennigan and three service aces by Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) to draw even. Two more kills by Hennigan capped the 7-0 run and gave the Pirates an improbable 26-24 set one victory.
Â
Set two was close as well with the teams combining for 10 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied at 22, Seton Hall scored three of the final four points and took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-23 victory.Â
Â
After Towson cut the Pirates' lead in half with a set three victory, The Hall bounced back with a convincing set four win. A 9-1 run turned a slim 6-5 Pirate lead into a 15-6 rout. From there, the Seton Hall lead didn't dip below five points and the Pirates went on to a 25-19 victory.
