San Antonio, Texas – The San Antonio Spurs announced Thursday evening that they have re-signed Seton Hall standout Sandro Mamukelashvili '21.
Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported previously that Mamukelashvili signed a one-year contract with the club worth $2 million.
Mamukelashvili was originally signed by the Spurs on March 3, 2023. In 19 games for the Silver and Black, he averaged 10.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 23.3 minutes.Â
Prior to joining the Spurs, Mamukelashvili was on a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. He appeared in 24 games with the Bucks. In 11 games with the Bucks G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, he averaged 19.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 30.6 minutes.
The Tbilisi, Georgia native was like many of the great Pirates from his era; a player who stayed for four years and improved steadily in his time in South Orange. Following his senior campaign at The Hall, Mamukelashvili was named BIG EAST Player of the Year, Haggerty Award Metropolitan Player of the Year, Associated Press All-America honorable mention, NABC and USBWA All-District, first-team All-BIG EAST and first-team All-Met Writers. He also was a finalist for the 2021 Karl Malone National Power Forward of the Year Award. In February of that season, Mamukelashvili became just the 45th Pirate in program history to reach the 1,000 career points milestone. Reaching 1,000 was a strong accomplishment for someone who only scored 87 points his freshman season, missed 10 games of his junior season due to injury and lost more games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished his career with an even 1,100 points, which ranked 38th all-time at Seton Hall at the time of his graduation. He also ranked 20th in program history with 651 career rebounds.
Mamukelashvili played on two Seton Hall teams that reached the NCAA Tournament and he was part of the 2019-20 squad that won the BIG EAST regular season championship. He graduated from the University with a bachelor's degree in social and behavioral sciences.
