NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week, while teammate Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors for the fourth time this season on Monday.
The duo was a key component to Seton Hall's 3-1 record last week.
Boyd led Seton Hall with a .500 average last week. The Pirates' starting designated hitter went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI vs. Saint Peter's on Wednesday. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored vs. FDU on Friday. On Saturday, with Seton Hall trailing, 5-3, Boyd crushed a three-run home run to give the Pirates a 6-5 lead. He finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored a double, a home run, a stolen base and three RBIs. On Sunday, another double, Boyd's third of the week, drove in an RBI in Seton Hall's 5-1 win. This is Boyd's first weekly BIG EAST honor.
Prevost earns BIG EAST honors for a sixth straight week to begin the season. It's the fourth time he's received Pitcher of the Week honors. On Friday vs. Fairleigh Dickinson, Prevost pitched his third complete game of the season in Seton Hall's 3-1 victory. The 6-foot-8 right-hander gave up just one run while striking out five and walking one batter. To date, he leads the BIG EAST in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and opposing batting average. He's fourth in ERA at 1.69.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll members include: Butler's Jeff Schank, Georgetown's Matt Smith, Xavier's Derek Hasenbeck and both Zach Lauricella and James Lomangino of St. John's.
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, March 25 when it hosts Fairfield at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15.m.
