Led by head coach Owen T. Carroll, the Pirates got off to a slow start to the season and was 14-12 heading into postseason, but, with excellent starting pitching behind them, they got hot at the right time, sweeping the NCAA District II regional with wins over Buffalo and Saint Joseph's (twice), allowing just three runs in the tournament, to claim the championship and reach Omaha, where they finished tied for seventh.
