- 1978
A well-known athlete at St. Benedict’s Prep, Edward Collins played varsity football, basketball and baseball for four years. He was the unfortunate victim of a tragic football accident during his post-graduate year, which resulted in the amputation of his lower leg. He received a scholarship offer from Seton Hall, went out for and won his varsity letter as a goaltender on the Pirates men’s soccer team, despite his disability. After graduating from Seton Hall, he went on to a career as a highly successful athletic director and Assistant to the Principal of North Arlington High School. He will be remembered for the valuable lesson of how courage and determination can overcome the most agonizing of setbacks.
