Hall of Fame

Harry A. Coates
- Induction:
- 1975
With a coaching career that spanned some 50 years, there is no track athlete whose training method does not owe something to Harry Coates. In the late 1930s to early 1940s, his Seton Hall teams were the scourge of the indoor circuit. In 1942, his Two-Mile Relay Team set the world indoor record of 7:33:9, which not only wiped out The Hall’s own world mark, but exceeded the world outdoor mark previously established by the University of California in 1941. He was associated not only with SHU, but also coached five athletes who competed in the Olympics.
