John W. Valentin

John Valentin played at Seton Hall during a successful period (1986–88) when the team went 116-52. After helping the Pirates win the 1987 BIG EAST Championship, he came back in 1988 to hit .392 with 64 runs scored, 52 RBI and a .618 slugging percentage to earn third-team All-America and All-BIG EAST honors. He finished his career a .322 hitter with 121 runs scored in three seasons. A member of the 1987 U.S. National team, Valentin was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 1988 MLB Amateur Draft and played 11 seasons in the Majors. In 1995, he hit 27 home runs and had 102 RBI for the Red Sox, finished ninth in the MVP voting and won the Silver Slugger Award.
