Phillip Thigpen, Sr.

Philip Thigpen attended both Seton Hall Prep and Seton Hall University. Known as a truly magnificent runner, he was the 1948 National AAU 1,000 Yard champion, the 1949-50 IC4A 1,000 Yard champion and the 1950 IC4A 880 Yard champion. He was also a member of the 1948 IC4A One Mile Relay championship team and a member of the 1951 National AAU 1,600 Meter Relay championship team. He will long be remembered for his victory over Marcell Hansenne of France in the K. of C. 1,000 Yard Invitational in 1949.
