As the icon of Seton Hall Athletics in the late 1980s/early 1990s, P.J. Carlesimo’s profound impact on the basketball program led the University to the national stage as a power in BIG EAST basketball. He amassed a 212-166 record in 12 seasons, led the Pirates to six NCAA Tournament appearances, two BIG EAST Tournament championships and the famous 1989 run to the NCAA Final Four and national championship game. He was a two-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year and Metropolitan Coach of the Year and mentored student-athletes to 15 All-BIG EAST selections. An assistant coach for the 1992 United States Olympic “Dream Team,” Carlesimo went on to serve as an NBA head coach for parts of nine seasons and won three NBA championships as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs.
