As the Headmaster of Seton Hall Prep, Father Michael Kelly was a longtime friend of Seton Hall Athletics, serving as a member of the University athletic council, and twice as chairman of the Athletics Hall of Fame. He served as chaplain to the University football and wrestling teams and assistant chaplain to the basketball team. He was also chaplain to the New Jersey Army Reserve National Guard and South Orange Police for 20 years. In 1985, he was a recipient of the Distinguished American Award presented by the Essex County Chapter of the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame.
