On Sunday (May 16) the Pirates scored nine runs in the second inning and cruised to a 12-2 victory over Connecticut at Owen T. Carroll Field Sunday. Senior second baseman John Bravette (Belleville, NJ) paced the Pirates with a 4-for-4, 4-RBI effort, including a three-run double in the decisive nine-run second inning. The Pirates sent 13 men to the plate in the inning, scoring nine on eight hits and two UConn errors. Senior outfielder Josh Vath (Cedar Grove, NJ) singled twice in the inning and had a RBI. Sophomore righthander Mike Wren (Montvale, NJ) picked up the victory for the Pirates, improving to 5-1. He pitched a pre-determined three innings, allowing a run on two hits. Junior righthander Damon Ponce de Leon (Demarest, NJ) improved to 6-1 on the season with six strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out five with no walks. Senior lefty John Probst (Parsippany, NJ) pitched one-hit ball over the final three innings for his first save of the year. The Pirates scored two runs in each of the next two innings, capped by a two-run double in the third by freshman outfielder Jeff Miller (Springfield, NJ) that made the score 7-0.
