Wrestling Opens 2000-01 Season with Pirate Duals

The "Black" squad recorded victories in six of the eight contested matches. Junior David Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) opened the meet with a major decision, 14-6, over freshman Tom Becker (Egg Harbor, NJ) at 133 pounds.
Senior co-captain Michael Settembrino (Lyndhurst, NJ) was also impressive, posting a 12-6 decision over sophomore John Maiorana (Bloomfield, NJ) at 141 pounds, giving the "Black" squad a 7-0 lead.
A pair of close one-point matches followed. Sophomore Beau Bruno (Mineola, NY) posted a 5-4 decision over freshman Anthony Fidacaro (Monmouth Junction, NJ) at 149 pounds. The "Silver" squad picked up its first victory when sophomore Greg Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) defeated freshman Leet Brady (Tulsa, OK), 3-2.
The "Silver" squad narrowed the gap to 10-6 when junior Bobb Barber (Millville, NJ) recorded a 7-3 decision over junior Larry Smashey (Monroeville, NJ).
But the "Black" squad won the final three matches, opening up a 19-6 advantage. Senior co-captain Everett Bell (Wallington, NJ) earned a 10-5 decision over freshman Terry Madden (Bloomingburgh, NY) at 174. Senior Fikret Darzanoff (Clifton, NJ) defeated freshman Uri Boyd (Cherry Hill, NJ) , 16-10, at 197 pounds. Junior Greg Sawyer (Monroeville, NJ) capped off the evening with an 11-4 win over sophomore Carlos Panfili (Saddle Brook, NJ) at 285 pounds.
Seton Hall opens its regular season on Sunday, November 12, when it participates in the Oklahoma Gold Classic at SUNY-Brockport in Brockport, New York.
