Wrestling Falls to Army in First Dual Meet, 22-18

Trailing 18-16, the Cadets received victories from sophomore Jeremy Conner (157) and senior Matt Ross (165) in the final two matches to clinch the victory.
Opening the match at 174 pounds, Army senior Maurice Worthy (South Toms River, NJ), currently ranked seventh in the country in Division I, pinned 15th-ranked Everett Bell in 6:08 to give the Cadets the early 6-0 lead. Seton Hall junior John Garriques (Hackettstown, NJ) countered by pinning Graig Cooper in 6:13 to tie the score at 6-6.
But Army received victories at 197 from sophomore Jon Paxton, at 285 from sophomore Brendon Devlin (major decision) and at 125 from senior Brett Gendron to open up a 16-6 advantage.
Seton Hall won the next three matches to take its first lead. At 133, junior Dave Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) pinned Mike Quiroga at 5:27. Senior Mike Settembrino (Lyndhurst, NJ) earned a 5-0 decision at 141 and sophomore Beau Bruno (Mineola, NY) scored a 6-1 decision at 149 to give the Pirates an 18-16 edge.
At 157, Conner trailed Seton Hall freshman Leet Brady (Tulsa, OK) 6-4 in the third period, but scored a takedown and added the decisive point on riding time to earn a 7-6 decision and give Army the lead for good, 19-18.
With the meet undecided until the final match at 165, Ross posted a 6-3 decision over Seton Hall sophomore Greg Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) to seal the win for Army.
Seton Hall returns to action on Saturday, December 2nd when it faces the University of Wisconsin in a noon meet at Lyndhurst High School.
