Swimmers Compete At US Open

MONTGOMERY, AL (December 2, 2000)- Senior Mark Arzaga (Toronto, Ontario)
earned 10th place in the 100-meter butterfly (55.85), 14th in the 200-meter
butterfly (2:04.67), and 15th in the 100-meter breastroke (1:04.42) as six
swimmers competed at the US Open, held on the campus of Auburn University.
Sophomores Asaf Shachaf (Haifa, Israel) and Jess Socha (North Brunswick, NJ) made BIG EAST cuts by completing the 50-meter freestyle in respective times of 23.93 and 27.15. Junior Peter Economou (Howell, NJ) finished 17th in the 100-meter butterfly (56.15) and teamed with Arzaga, Shachaf and sophomore Jon Bertera (Oakton, VA) to earn 8th place in the 400-meter medley relay (3:554.24). Freshman Hilary Steinour (Carlisle, PA) also competed, finishing the 200-meter butterfly in 2:26.44.
The swimming and diving squads will return to action on Monday, January 8 when they take on Georgetown University in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
