On Today's Win vs. Oregon...
"Certainly this is a great win for our school and it is fitting that
these two seniors (Kaukenas and Holloway) were such a big part of it:
Kaukenas making the shot that boosted us into the overtime and Holloway
hitting the winning shot in overtime. We have been saying for a while
that will go as far as our seniors will take us."
On Shaheen Holloway...
"He recognized that this is his last year and his commitment,
preparation and investment has been off the chart and you can see it
paying off for him. The old saying is 'the harder you work, the luckier
you get' and he was certainly a beneficiary of that. I'm very proud of
him; he has done it, it is nothing that anyone else has done for him. We
have suppored him and he decided that he would make the best of any
situation and he has had a wonderful senior year."
On Samuel Dalembert:
"He is a work in progress, but he has unlimted potential. As time goes
on, I think you'll see him become a tremendous basketball player. He is
playing at a very high level right now and playing in the Big East has
prepared us for opportunities like this. I think he'll be very good if
he continues to work very hard, gets strong, mature, and has the right
attitude; the sky is the limit."
On the Last Play of Overtime:
"We wanted the ball in Holloway's hands, without a question; that was
not a secret. We had something designed to push the ball up the floor
and create something, but he always had the opportunity to use his
instincts and to make a play and he did. That is the kind of player he
is. He has the ability to create plays, to be instinctive on the fly. He
saw an opening, because they tried to double-team him and get that ball
out o his hands, which is a good strategy, but he would not give it up.
He kept going and attacking until he found an opening and he made an
incredible shot."
On Darius Lane:
"We know we need offense out of Darius. He is our leading scorer and
certainly we need production from him. We haven't been a good team or
won many games when Darius and Rimas haven't been good scorers for us.
Darius made some big plays down the stretch; certainly that big steal
and lay-up."
