This will be the second straight year that the Pirates and the Sooners have met. Oklahoma, ranked third in the nation last season, recorded a 36-3 decision over Seton Hall in a dual meet at Rahway High School in New Jersey. Mike Settembrino recorded a victory at 133 for the Pirates last season. The teams will meet at Chickasha High School in Oklahoma this season.
Seton Hall will then travel to Edmond, Oklahoma for an 8 p.m. (EST) matchup against the University of Central Oklahoma. The Bronchos are currently ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II poll. Central Oklahoma (1-1) has five individuals currently ranked in the top six in their respective weight classes. Mark Dodgen is the defending Division II national champion at 125 pounds.
Seton Hall has not wrestled since December 10 when it fell to top-ranked Minnesota in a dual meet at Lakewood (N.J.) High School. The Pirates are led by junior Dave Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) who has compiled a record of 11-3 at 133 pounds. Senior Everett Bell (Wallington, NJ) is currently ranked first in the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) and 17th in the nation at 174 pounds. He has a record of 10-4. The dual meets will be a homecoming of sorts for freshman Leet Brady who hails from Tulsa, which is approximately 100 miles from Edmond.
The Pirates open their ECWA schedule on Saturday, January 13 when they face Boston College and Drexel in dual meets at noon in Philadelphia.
