Swimmers Sweep Georgetown

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (January 8, 2001)- The men's and women's swimming teams defeated Georgetown University to record their first BIG EAST victories of the season. Both squads improve their season records to 3-3, and their BIG EAST records to 1-3.
The men defeated Georgetown 111-75. Senior Mark Arzaga (Toronto, Ontario) led the Pirates with victories in the 200-meter individual medley (2:17.31) and the 200-meter butterfly (1:00.11). Sophomore Asaf Shachaf (Haifa, Israel) recorded victories in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events, finishing in respective times of 25.07 and 55.93. Junior Mike Salzillo (Plantsville, CT) earned a victory in the 400-meter freestyle (4:34.78), while sophomore Jon Bertera picked up a victory in the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.50).
The women defeated Georgetown by a score of 100-86. Junior Maran Lougheed (Stouffville, Ontario) paced the squad with victories in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley, recording respective times of 1:19.11 and 2:35.37. Sophomore Jess Socha (North Brunswick, NJ) chipped in with victories in the 50 and 100-meter freestyles, earning respective scores of 28.87 and 1:03.86. Sophomore Lisa DelMastro (Whitby, Ontario) contributed with a victory in the 100-meter backstroke (1:13.80), while freshman Hilary Steinour (Carlisle, PA) picked up a victory in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.10).
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, January 8 when they travel to Rider University for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
