Wrestling Tops Boston College, Falls to Drexel

Seton Hall is now 1-6 in dual meet action and 1-1 in the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA). Drexel improves to 9-3 (3-0 ECWA) while Boston College falls to 1-3 (0-2 ECWA).
In recording the 48-3 victory over Boston College, Seton Hall recorded four pins and a technical fall in winning nine of the ten matches. Dave Ilaria opened the match at 133 by pinning Ricky Meritt in 3:37. After Settembrino posted a 12-4 major decision at 141, sophomores Beau Bruno (Mineola, NY) and Greg Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) and junior Larry Smashey (Monroeville, NJ) recorded pins at 149, 157 and 165 respectively to give the Pirates a 28-0 advantage. Bruno had the fastest fall of the meet, pinning Pete Tarricone in just 18 seconds.
Boston College picked up its only win at 174 when senior Dan Degan recorded a 12-5 decision over Seton Hall sophomore Zeke Hernandez.
The Pirates started strong against Drexel as Ilaria recorded an 8-0 major decision over Dan Heverly and Settembrino added a 3-1 decision over Andy Ciasulli at 133 and 141 respectively.
Drexel claimed three straight narrow decisions to open up a 9-7 lead. But Seton Hall used a 4-2 decision at 174 by freshman Terry Madden (Bloomingburgh, NY) and an 11-2 major decision at 184 by Garriques to reclaim the lead, 14-9.
Drexel countered by winning the next three matches. Chris Jones (197) and Mike Carroll (285) earned decisions to give the Dragons a 15-14 lead. With the meet still undecided at 125, Drexel freshman Rob Rebmann earned a 13-0 major decision over Seton Hall sophomore Sam Chey to secure the team victory.
Seton Hall returns to action on Thursday, January 18 when it travels to Piscataway, New Jersey for a 7 p.m. dual meet against Rutgers.
