Bell Captures ECWA Wrestling Championship

With the victory, Bell earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I National Championships on March 15-17 at the University of Iowa. The 174-pound title bout was a rematch of last year's championship that was won by Anspach.
Senior Mike Settembrino (Lyndhurst, NJ) and junior John Garriques (Hackettstown, NJ) also earned at-large berths to the NCAA Championships. It will be the first appearance at the national tournament for all three wrestlers.
Settembrino, the top seed at 141 pounds, lost a narrow 5-3 decision to defending champion Jason DeBruin of Hofstra in the title match.
Garriques also lost a close match in the 184-pound championship, falling to defending ECWA champion Shawn Scannell of Rider, 7-5.
Junior Dave Ilaria (Belleville, NJ) fell to Hofstra All-American Roman Fleszar, 11-4 in the 133-pound title match. Ilaria did not receive an at-large berth.
The Pirates also had a pair of third-place finishers. After falling in his first match at 165 pounds, freshman Terry Madden (Bloomingburgh, NY) won three consecutive consolation matches, including a 6-2 decision over Zach Edmond of Boston University in the third-place match. Senior Fikret Darzanoff (Clifton, NJ) closed out his career with a third-place finish at 197 pounds. He defeated Hofstra's Matt Daddino 2-1 in his final match.
