Women's Tennis Falls at Columbia, 7-0

Junior Jennifer Seide partnered with Nadja Sein to win the No. 3 singles match against Columbia, 9-8.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team on Friday was swept by the Columbia Lions at the Dick Savitt Center. The loss drops Seton Hall’s dual match record to 1-1, while Columbia improves to 1-0.

The Pirates’ lone victory was at No. 3 doubles, where junior Jennifer Seide (Hyde Park, Mass.) and sophomore Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) defeated Eunice Chao and Kara Worsley, 9-8.

The Lions won No. 1 doubles, Milena Kachar and Nina Suda bested Seton Hall’s Iva Gyurgina (Radomir, Bulgaria) and Viviana Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), 8-3, and took the No. 2 match, with Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) and Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) falling to Marlena Hall and Sydney Murray, 8-5.

Freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) was the only Pirate to win a set in singles play, but she lost her No. 5 singles match to Worsley, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Rounding out the match’s singles results: Figueroa fell to Kachar in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4, Jaros lost the No. 2 match to Murray, 6-2, 7-5, Sein was defeated by Angela Hendry in the No. 3 slot, 6-2, 6-1, Lauren Shearer bested El-Tobgy in the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-2, and Seide dropped the No. 6 match to Suda, 6-4, 6-1.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, Oct. 21, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., to begin competition in the ITA Regional tournament.
