Women's Tennis Concludes Competition at Dartmouth Invitational

Freshman Danielle Viola advanced to the Flight B Singles semifinals at the Dartmouth Invitational.

HANOVER, N.H. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team completed competition at Dartmouth’s three-day Big Green Invitational tournament on Monday. The Pirates had three players in singles competition, with freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) having the team’s most successful campaign, advancing to the semifinals of the Flight B Singles Tournament.

Viola posted a 3-1 record at the tournament, falling to eventual bracket champion Jessica Loose of Long Island University in the semifinals on Monday, 6-1, 6-1. Prior to her loss to Loose, Viola topped the University of Rhode Island’s Valerie Chacon in the opening round, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-2), Carolina Huignard of Syracuse in the second round, 6-1, 6-4, and Ohio State’s Olga Koutseridi in the quarterfinals, 6-1. 6-2.

Also for Seton Hall, junior Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) played in the Flight A Singles tournament, but lost both of her matches, falling to Syracuse’s Katie Bramante, 6-3, 6-4, in the opening round, and falling to Joanna Roth of Princeton, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Sophomore Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the only other Pirate to compete in the tournament, going 1-2 in the Flight B Singles draw. El-Tobgy dropped her opening round match to Boston University’s Danielle Abraham, 6-2, 6-2, but rebounded from the loss to win her first match in the consolation bracket, topping Erin Fleming of Rhode Island, 6-1, 6-0. El-Tobgy was eliminated from play on Sunday, when she fell to Cornell’s Liyang Wang, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3.

Junior Jennifer Seide (Hyde Park, Mass.) and sophomore Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) comprised the Pirates' only doubles team at the tournament. Seide and Sein lost to Rutgers' Anela Dujsic and Dana Gordon in the opening round of doubles compeition, 8-3. In the first round of the consolation tournament, they were beaten by Natalie Dean and Maggie Nenova of Buffalo, 8-6.

The Seton Hall women’s tennis team will conclude its fall schedule this Saturday, Nov. 5, when it travels to Boston, Mass., to face-off with Boston University at 12:00 p.m.
