Women's Tennis Topples Manhattan, 7-0

Junior Ebru Burduroglu made her season debut on Friday against Manhattan.

BRONX, N.Y. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team earned its second-straight sweep with a 7-0 victory over Manhattan at the Bronx International Youth Tennis Center on Friday. The win evened the Pirates’ dual-match record at 4-4.

In singles action, Seton Hall won five of the six matches in straight sets. Senior Viviana Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) won her No. 1 match against Jennifer Fowler, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) defeated Casey Conklin in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Ebru Burduroglu (Istanbul, Turkey) made her season debut, winning the No. 4 singles match against Patrice Reiley, 6-2, 6-0.

Freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) topped Men Nguyen, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles, and junior Iva Gyurgina (Radomir, Bulgaria) did not lose a set in the No. 6 match with Lindsay Spagnola, winning, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) completed the singles sweep, outlasting Lindsey Keeler in the No. 2 match, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.

The Pirates were also dominant in doubles play, winning all three matches to earn the point. In No. 1 doubles Figueroa and Sein beat Fowler and Conklin, 8-3. Viola and Gyurgina took No. 2 doubles over Keeler and Reiley, 8-0, and Jaros and Burduroglu topped Nguyen and Spagnola in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

Seton Hall returns to action on Saturday, Feb 25, when it travels to NJIT for a 7:00 p.m. match at the Tenafly Racquet Club in Tenafly, N.J.
