Women's Tennis Falls to Binghamton, 4-3

Freshman Danielle Viola won her No. 5 singles match against Jennifer Naegeli, 6-3, 6-1.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team lost to Binghamton 4-3 on Friday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The match was the Pirates first of the spring season. Seton Hall took the doubles point and both the No. 5 and No. 6 singles points, but all four of the top seeds fell in straight sets.

Freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Fall, N.Y,) defeated Binghamton’s Naegeli, 6-3, 6-1, and junior Eva Gyurgina (Radomir, Bulgaria) topped Scarangella, 7-5, 6-2, for the Pirates only singles points of the match.

Seton Hall took the doubles points by winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Senior Viviana Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) teamed up to beat Naegeli and Koprivica, 8-1, in the No. 1 match, and in the No. 2 match Gyurgina and Viola bested Altriaj and Kuchnirourch, 8-3.

The Pirates return to action Saturday, Feb. 4, when they will face Army at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y., at 10:00 a.m.
