Women's Tennis Beats Broward County Community College, 5-2

Freshman Danielle Viola won her No. 4 singles match over Chandra Capozzi, 7-6 (5), 6-1.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team ended its Spring Break trip with a 5-2 win over Broward County Community College on Saturday. The Pirates cruised through singles play, dropping only one match, but struggled in doubles, losing the point to the Seahawks. With the win, SHU improves to 7-5 this year.

Junior Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) and sophomore Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) both won their singles-matches in straight sets. Jaros defeated Edita Kulichova’ in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and Sein topped Adrienne Duenas in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-4. Senior Viviana Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) took the No. 1 match when Marta Simic retired during the third set.

Also winning for Seton Hall was freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), beating Chandra Capozzi in No. 4 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-1, and junior Ebru Burduroglu (Istanbul, Turkey), winning the No. 5 match over Tawsha Nathanson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

The doubles team of Figueroa and Sein kept Broward County from sweeping the doubles point. The two won the No. 1 match against Kulichova’ and Capozzi, 8-2.

Seton Hall returns to action on Friday, Mar. 24, when they will travel to Queens, N.Y., to take on St. John’s at 2:00 p.m.
