Women's Tennis Finishes Ninth at BIG EAST Championships

TAMPA, Fla. – The Seton Hall women’s tennis team handled Connecticut 4-0 to finish in ninth place at the 2006 BIG EAST Championships at the University of South Florida Varsity Courts on Saturday. The match was the Pirates’ last of the season and the team concludes the year with a 12-12 dual match record.
SHU took the doubles point by winning both the flight two and three matches. Junior Iva Gyurgina (Radomir, Bulgaria) and sophomore Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) beat Jess Porter and Liz Dibbs in the No. 2 match, 8-5. Junior Ebru Burduroglu and freshman Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) won the No. 3 match 8-3, topping Alison Koch and Ashley Petruzzi.
In singles action, sophomore Nadja Sein (Istanbul, Turkey) won the flight three match, 6-2, 6-3, over BreAnn Cheung and Gyurgina bested Koch, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 6 singles. Viola’s straight-set flight four win over Dibbs, 6-1, 6-3, clinched the win for Seton Hall.
