SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Former Seton Hall track athlete Jason Jackson was named an assistant coach of the men’s and women’s track & field program it was announced by head coach John Moon on Monday. Jackson, a 1995 graduate of Seton Hall University, had been the head cross country and track & field coach at Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J., since August, 1998.
“It’s an honor to have him with me because he’s one of my former student-athletes and protgs,” Moon said. “He comes with a lot of experience from Columbia High School and is the kind of individual that will be a real hard, tough recruiter. He loves track, his whole life is track and field and it’s great to have him here.”
Jackson’s success at Columbia was highlighted by the girl’s indoor track & field team winning the 2004 State Championship, a feat which also garnered him New Jersey State Coach of the Year honors.
In 2005, Jackson coached the Columbia girl’s indoor team to state runner-up status, while the girl’s outdoor team won a New Jersey Sectional Championship. From 1999-2004, Jackson received six Essex County Coach of the Year awards for his role with Columbia’s Girl’s Cross Country, Girl’s Indoor Track and Boy’s Indoor Track squads.
Jackson also twice served as the head coach for the Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut cross country and track and field teams at the Down Under Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Jackson captained the squads during the 2004 and 2005 Games.
A 1995 graduate of Seton Hall University, Jackson walked on to the school’s men’s track team and ran the 800-meter run. Upon graduation, he earned his graduate degree from SHU prior to becoming the head coach at Columbia.
