Women's Basketball Recruiting Class Ranked Among Nation's Best

Head coach Phyllis Mangina has assembled a recruiting class ranked 66th by All Star Girls Report.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The All-Star Girls Report has released their updated recruiting class rankings following the late signing period and it recognized the Seton Hall women’s basketball class as the 66th-best in the country. Head coach Phyllis Mangina assembled a recruiting class of Ashley Booker (Oceanside, Calif.), LaTanya Copeland (Silver Springs, Md.) and Necole Evans (Springfield, Mass.) in fall and then added Elizbieta Mukosiej (Bilystok, Poland) in the spring. The group will join the Seton Hall program for the 2006-07 season.

“We are extremely pleased with this season’s recruiting class to back up last year’s,” Mangina said. “This is a group of outstanding young women who are also excellent players. It is very exciting for our program because each individual will bring unique talents to help the program in the future.”

Booker is a 5’7 standout point guard for the Lady Torreys at La Jolla Country Day School in La Jolla, Calif. A nominee for McDonald’s All-America, Booker was ranked as the No. 89 guard by All-Star Girls Report entering the season.

A 6’0 center for Gaithersburg High School, Copeland was one of the top players in the Washington, D.C. area. Copeland has a balanced all-around game and was ranked as the No. 141 recruit overall in the country.

Evans, 6’0 forward for Springfield Central High School, was a preseason Street & Smith All-American after earning Honorable Mention All-America status the previous three seasons. She was a four-year starter and earned an invite to the 2005 Adidas Top 10 All-American Camp, while ranking as the 83rd-best prospect last season.

Mukosiej played two years at Jefferson College prior to transferring to SHU. She earned NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention following her sophomore year after leading the team in scoring, rebounding and steals.

The Pirates finished the 2005-06 season with a 6-21 record, but return all five starters next season, including All-BIG EAST Honorable mention pick, Monique Blake. Seton Hall graduated two seniors, Julie Costello and Keri Shutz, from last season’s teams and is poised to be much improved with the return of 10 letterwinners.
