SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez announced Tuesday that Brandon Walters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Seton Hall University beginning in the 2007-08 academic year. Walters will join three other Pirate newcomers, Michael Glover, Jeremy Hazell and Austin Okosun, who signed in November.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Walters is a long forward who excels in rebounding and shot blocking, but runs the floor like a guard. Gonzalez believes his athleticism will fit well into the Seton Hall system.
“Brandon is a tremendous get for us... he’s a steal,” said Gonzalez. “A young, athletic big man, Brandon fits our style of play perfectly and comes from Lincoln High School, a top-notch program with a storied tradition. A very skilled player with great touch, he has enormous upside and will only get better and better.”
Under the esteemed tutelage of head coach Duane Morton, Walters helped guide Abraham Lincoln in Brooklyn, New York to a 111-19 record in four years including three Public Schools Athletic League championships and one state title. A First Team All-PSAL selection as a senior, he averaged 11.0 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game.
Walters’ signing helps fortify a Seton Hall frontcourt that was depleted by injury last season and graduation this May. Walters, coupled with the 6-foot-10 Okosun and the 6-foot-6 Glover will provide the Pirates with some much needed size on the inside next year.
