Women's Tennis Tops 7-0 Decision against Niagara

NIAGARA N.Y. - Seton Hall’s women’s tennis team tops Niagara University with a 7-0 decision. This is the first team victory for the Pirates for the fall season. The Pirates won all six of their singles matches plus two exhibition singles matches. Seton Hall also dominated in the doubles matches winning 2-1 and also winning the exhibition doubles match.

Junior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), freshman Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England), freshman Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, M.N.), senior Danielle Viola (Niagara N.Y.), sophomore Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) and freshman Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, C.A.) all came up with victories and dominated the singles matches. Sophomore Slavina Kaplanska (Sofia, Bulgaria) and junior Liza Chu (Panama City, Panama) also won their matches in the singles exhibition games.

Freshman duo Kilarski and Weerasinghe won their doubles match 8-4. Also winning in the doubles round was the pair of Viola and Sunbul winning 8-3. Liebschner and Verow were the only ones to lose their doubles match to Niagara; 8-3.

This tournament for the Pirates turned into a dual match when Albany was unable to travel to the Niagara Tournament. The Pirates have started off their fall season strong adding to the various victories from the last three big tournaments.

The Pirates next match will be their first home dual match of the fall season against Farleigh Dickenson University. The match will take place in on Seton Hall’s tennis courts at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14^th.
