The Pirate and Santa Claus danced with a large group of seven and eight year-olds and the entire group had a large buffet of food to go along with desert trays of cookies and cakes. Each youngster received a Pirate backpack, a Pirate winter hat plus two tickets to a men’s basketball game at
“The Seton Hall people are tremendous,” said Cynthia Banks, who coordinated the party for the Boys and Girls Club. “Every year we can count on their people to come help make our party a success. They pitch right in and serve the spaghetti and hot dogs and create a real warm feeling with the kids. I’d have to say, however, that my favorite is that big, tall Pirate who has a heart of gold.”
Seton Hall Athletic Director Joe Quinlan led the Pirate “holiday team” that included Women’s basketball players Kandice Green, Nicole Emery, Ebonie Williams, Shanai Heber and Whitney Wood, Women’s Track Athletes Jernail Hayes and KeAira Dickerson, Basketball Coach Phyllis Mangina, Assistant Track Coach John Marshall, Administrators Duane Bailey, Kevin Sponzo, Alyx Ayer and Stephanie Gebhardt.
“This is one of the favorite events of the school year for us,” explained Assistant AD Jamison Hannigan, who has coordinated the Seton Hall community efforts for the past two years. “We are out there during the year working in the community in various ways but it is always very special to do this sort of event during the holidays. The staff and volunteers who work with these young people are the real heroes and they deserve all of the credit.”
