Tennis Topped by Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2

TEANECK, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team lost to Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2, on Tuesday in its first dual match of the fall season.

Junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) won her No. 2 singles contest after struggling in the opening set to win (0-6, 6-3, 6-3) over Julija Korshunova. Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) picked up the other singles win in the No. 6 spot, besting Jessica DeCarlos (6-3, 6-3).

Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), making her first appearance of the season after recovering from an injury, played a competitive match against Elmine Botes in No. 1 singles. Unfortunately, Liebschner came up short, suffering a 6-2, 7-5 loss.

In No. 3 singles, sophomore Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) fell to Julia Prantl in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Freshman Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) was defeated by Ksenia Chernyshova (6-3, 6-1) in No. 4 singles.

Moving to No. 5 singles, sophomore Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, Calif.) suffered a tough three-set loss to Egzona Morina after coasting to a first-set victory (0-6, 6-2, 6-4).

In doubles competition, Sunbul and Liebschner fell (8-2) to Botes and Korshunova in No. 1 play. Weerasinghe and Cordero were knocked off by Chernyshova and DeCarlos (8-2) in No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was not completed.
