NEWARK, N.J. - Five players scored in double-figures to guide the Seton Hall men's basketball team to a 95-66 win over LIU on Saturday night. The win improves the Pirates to 4-0 on the season, who host NJIT at Prudential Center on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Senior Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had his strongest game of the season with 18 points, eight assists, and seven steals in just 28 minutes. Sophomore Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half, and pulled down 10 boards to go with three blocks.
Hazell converted from under the hoop to give SHU a 14-4 advantage with 13:42 left in the first half. The Blackbirds (2-3) responded with a 9-2 run over the next 3:27 to pull within 16-13, but the Pirates answered with five straight to push the margin to 21-13 with 8:55 to go before the half.
LIU continued to hang around and trailed, 28-22, at the 5:40 mark of the first, but Hazell would spark a 12-0 run after finishing a high-flying alley-oop from Harvey and knocking down a pair of three's to give Seton Hall a 20-point cushion.
