PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall junior Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season on Monday.
Hazell averaged 24.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a week that saw Seton Hall go 1-1. Last Tuesday, he scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in an easy 94-56 victory over Navy. On Saturday against #6 West Virginia, Hazell exploded for a career-high 41 points including two three-pointers in the final 17 seconds of regulation. The 41 points is the highest point total by a Pirate since Terry Dehere scored 41 vs. St. John's on Feb. 17, 1993. Seton Hall fell to West Virginia, despite Hazell's heroic performance, 90-84 in overtime. For the season, the 6-foot-5 guard is averaging 21.9 points per game, which is second in the BIG EAST Conference.
Also earning weekly honors, West Virginia's Devin Ebanks was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Syracuse's Brandon Triche was named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Hazell on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Stanley Robinson of Connecticut, Chris Wright of Georgetown, Samardo Samuels of Louisville and Jamine Peterson of Providence.
Hazell and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 29 before a sold out crowd when they host Syracuse at Prudential Center. Game time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
