NEWARK, N.J. - Every player in uniform scored as the Seton Hall basketball team throttled Hartford, 89-56, at Prudential Center. Senior point guard Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 11 points and dished out a career-high 14 assists to keep the Pirates undefeated at 6-0.
Sophomore Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) recorded a game high 17 points and picked up three steals off the bench. Juniors Robert Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) also had strong games, each scoring 15 points. Mitchell also grabbed nine rebounds.
Joe Zeglinski put the Hawks (2-6) on top, 7-6, with a three-pointer at the 16:32 mark of the first half, but Harvey would put Seton Hall up for good with a trey from the right wing just 15 seconds later.
Theodore connected on a runner from about 15-feet out to cap a 13-2 outburst, giving the Pirates a 19-9 edge with 11:30 remaining in the first half. Hartford cut the deficit to five after a second-effort tip-in by Clayton Brothers with 8:52 left before the half and forced SHU to take a timeout. The Pirates scored the next nine points, and took a 42-24 lead into the locker room after a deep three from Jamel Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) before time expired.
The Pirates maintained control throughout the second half and took their largest lead of the game, 87-52, after a pair of Darnell Gatling (Brooklyn, N.Y.) free-throws, marking the first points of his career.
For the first time in program history, Seton Hall has defeated three straight opponents by 29 or more points. The Pirates won the battle of the boards, 46-32, and scored 22 points off of 17 Hawk turnovers.
The Pirates return to Prudential Center on Monday, December 7, to face UMass at 7:00 p.m.
