
Track & Field Signs Two Runners from the Bahamas

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. –Seton Hall track and field head coach John Moon has announced the signings of Ivanique Kemp (Nassau, Bahamas) and Hughnique Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas) to National Letters of Intent. Both runners will compete in the 2009-10 season for the Pirates.
“I’m very excited to have athletes the caliber of Ivanique and Hughnique join our program,” Moon stated. “These girls are among the top runners in their country and are quality students academically as well. I expect them to contribute right away for our women’s team.”
On April 15, Kemp and Rolle each represented their country in the CARIFTA Games, which is widely regarded as the biggest junior track and field competition in the Caribbean. Kemp was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a performance of 13.78, and placed sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.85). Rolle took silver in the 1,500-meter run after clocking in at 4:44.16, setting a new career best time.
Kemp attended CR Walker High School and also runs the 100 and 200-meter dash. In the 100-meter dash, Kemp set a new personal record with an 11.75 effort in the preliminary heats of this year’s CARIFTA Games.
A product of Saint Augustine’s, Rolle is an accomplished 800-meter and cross country runner. She won a bronze medal in the 2008 CARIFTA Games in that event, hitting a time of 2:15.09 and has competed at the NACAC Championships the past three years.
Seton Hall will send a group of nine individuals and three relay teams to the NCAA Regional in Greensboro, N.C. from May 28-30.
