PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall freshman Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.
It's the first Rookie of the Week honor for a Seton Hall player since Jeremy Hazell won the award on Jan. 21, 2008. It's also the second straight week a Pirate has been honored by the BIG EAST. Last week, Jordan Theodore was named to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
Edwin averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in week that saw Seton Hall go 2-0. Edwin recorded career-highs with 17 points and nine rebounds in a 78-51 victory over Longwood on Dec. 13. His 17 points tied Jordan Theodore for the team lead that evening. Against NJIT on Dec. 19, Edwin scored a team-high 14 points and matched his career-high of nine rebounds. In both games, Edwin made three steals.
Also earning weekly honors, Pittsburgh's Gilbert Brown was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include: Carleton Scott of Notre Dame, Jonathan Mitchell of Rutgers, Kris Joseph of Syracuse, Corey Fisher of Villanova and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.
Edwin and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 22 when they host Dayton at Prudential Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 973-275-HALL.
