NEWARK, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team won its third straight game after a 68-45 win over NJIT on Sunday night. Freshman Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) led the Pirates (6-4) in scoring for a second straight game with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and tied a career-high with nine rebounds.
Senior Jeff Robinson (Trenton, N.J.) scored 10 points to go with seven boards. Junior Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) dished out a career-best 10 assists and added six points.
Theodore assisted on the Pirates first four field goals of the game as the Hall jumped out to a 12-5 lead four minutes in. The Highlanders (2-6) scored the next seven points to knot the score with 14:31 left in the first half, but the Pirates responded with a run of their own.
Senior Eniel Polynice (Sarasota, Fla.) capitalized on a traditional three-point play to highlight an 11-0 outburst to put the Hall ahead, 23-12, at the 11:27 juncture of the period. After NJIT cut its deficit to six, three minutes later, Patrik Auda (Brno, Czech Republic) sparked another Pirate run with four points and a nice assist to Edwin on a layup to build the lead back up to 32-18 with 3:09 before the break.
The Highlanders held Seton Hall scoreless the rest of the half and knocked down a pair of three-pointers to make it 32-24 at the half.
The second half started like the first, with Theodore assisting on four straight buckets, including two Jamel Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-pointers, to extend the margin to 45-24 with 16:01 left in the game. Unlike the first half, NJIT would not make a run and the Pirates coasted the rest of the way.
Isaiah Wilkerson scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Highlanders.
SHU shot 50 percent from the field, while limiting NJIT to 30.4 percent and held a 21-7 edge in bench scoring.
The Pirates return to action at Prudential Center on Wednesday, December 22, against Dayton at 7:00 p.m.
