Seton Hall Tennis Falls Flat to Binghamton, 7-0

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Seton Hall tennis team was defeated by Binghamton, 7-0, on Friday in its second attempt to get their first win of the spring season.

Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), was unable to win her first match this season after falling to Lauren Bates (6-4, 6-1) in the No.1 singles. Sophomore Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) was defeated by Jillian Santos in a tough two set loss.

Junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) played a competitive match against Yulia Smirnova, trying to get Hall back into the competition. Unfortunately Sunbul fell short 7-5, 6-2, in the No.3 singles.  

In No. 4 singles, freshman Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) was defeated by Anna Edelman (6-2, 6-0), as Edelman rejoined the Binghamton lineup after sitting out last season.  

In the doubles portion of the competition, Sunbul and Liebschner played a relentless match against Santos and Bates but fell short in No. 1 play. Both No. 2 and 3 doubles were overthrown by their opponents 8-2.

Although, Seton Hall's team is young, Coach Wyzykowski stated that they have competed well early in the season and hope to get their first victory on Sunday, February 7, playing against Army at West Point, N.Y.
