COLTS NECK, N.J. -The Seton Hall tennis team fell for the third straight time losing to Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Pirates are now 0-2 in the BIG EAST and 5-6 in their overall season.
Due to travel time contraints for Pittsburgh, it was agreed upon that once a team won four points the match would be stopped. Despite senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), best efforts to gain a point for the Pirates her match was cut short due to the points system. Liebschner, along with Weerasinghe and Sunbul were not able to complete their matches today.
In No. 4 singles, freshman Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela), struggled against her opponent Gabrielle Catanzariti, losing in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, Cal.) was defeated by Sabrina Visram 6-2, 6-3, giving Pittsburgh their last point needed to win the match.
Weerasinghe/Cordero played a strong doubles match against Parbhu/Aprodu winning 8-3. Even with their victory, Pittsburgh won the majority of the doubles matches, allowing them to gain the crucial doubles point.
The Pirates will play UConn on Friday, April 2nd at Baird Center, South Orange, in hopes to win their first BIG EAST match.
