In No. 1 singles, senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) won the only point for the Pirates. Liebschner put up a hard fight against Stephanie LaFortune winning in three set (6-3, 1-6, 10-7). Liebschner improves her BIG EAST record to 2-3.
Junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) put up a fight against Monique Burton. Sunbul won in the second set 2-6. Unfortunately her efforts were not enough to surpass her opponent and she lost in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 11-9). Sophomore Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, Cal.) was unsuccessful in her match against Katie Haught in No.5 singles. Kilarski lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Liebschner and Sunbul fell (8-4) to Burton and LaFortune in No.1 play. Verow and Kilarski sunk to Cardenas and Mathis 8-1. In the No.3 spot Weerasinghe and Cordero were defeated by Pettersson and Pilsbury 8-4.
The Pirates will try to achieve a victory in their next match that is set to be played on Sunday, April 11th at home against St. Joseph's.
