Seton Hall Tennis Falls to Rutgers, 6-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team fell to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in the BIG EAST after a 6-1 loss to Rutgers on Tuesday.

Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), hoped to improve her record in the BIG EAST. Unfortunately Liebschner lost in straight sets to Amy Zhang, making her record in the BIG EAST 1-3 so far.

In No. 3 singles, junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) had the only point for the Pirates, winning her match against Katherine Arlak (1-6, 7-5, 10-7). Sunbul struggled in the first set; however she came back to win in the last two sets. Her overall record for singles improves to 6-6.

Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) was unsuccessful in her match against Leonora Slatnick losing in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Weerasinghe has a winning record of 8-5 in singles competition  for  the spring season.

The Pirates showed more effort in the doubles competition, but were unable to earn the doubles point in the match. Liebschner and Sunbul played a strong doubles match against #61 Zhang and Holzberg; unfortunately they lost 8-5.

Seton Hall returns to action on Saturday, April 10^th when they play West Virginia at home.
