NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Seton Hall tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Regional Tournament on Saturday, concluding their fall schedule.
Sophomore Pui Wing Sher (Shui Wai, Hong Kong) was the only Pirate in action as matches began in the singles main draw.
Sher dispatched her first round opponent in straight sets, defeating Cornell's Lauren Frazier 6-4, 6-3.
Sher continued to play well in her second round matchup with Vanessa Petrini of Rutgers. Sher rallied from a 2-5 first set deficit to even the match at 6-6. Petrini recovered to quell Sher's comeback effort and took the first set 7-6 (10-8) after a seesaw tiebreak.
In the second set, Sher jumped out to a 5-3 lead. After dropping three straight games, the sophomore managed to force the second tiebreak of the match. In the end, it was Petrini who again found the edge, taking the set and the victory 7-6 (8), 7-6 (4).
Seton Hall returns to competition on Saturday, February 4th in West Point, N.Y. to start the spring season. The Pirates will take on Army and SUNY-Binghamton in consecutive days on the campus of the United States Military Academy.
